Nothing But Nature: Our Escape with Getaway Houston

If the chaos of our current world has you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and feeling a bit claustrophobic, well… you aren’t alone. Sometimes going back to the earth (quoting one of my favorite Jason Mraz songs), getting in touch with nature, and most of all yourself is just what you need to recharge and refocus. This is exactly what I did on our latest Getaway. For all of my fellow Houstonians, Getaway has a new location just an hour outside of the city; perfect for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle.

safety first

Since Getaway is contactless, there is no need to worry about masks, currency transactions, communal areas, or anything like that. Your cabin entry code is provided via text, along with any and all additional communications. The cabin is cleaned and sterilized fully before your stay, and you have your own private outdoor area including chairs, firepit, and picnic table.

This tiny cabin has everything you need to Getaway in comfort! The first thing I noticed when entering the cabin is the amazing smell. The cabins are made out of wood and smell amazing inside. They come with full amenities including a shower, toilet, mini kitchen with stove, sink and fridge, memory foam mattress, feather pillows, and a full wall window to bring the nature indoors to you.

This time at Getaway I wanted to bring some workout clothing with me so that I could meditate, and do a little yoga. It is so peaceful being outside with no one else around, and without all of the distractions of the city – or cellphones… did I mention they have a phone lockbox in the cabin to tuck your phone away because you are there to relax after all? Also, because there really isn’t much reception on their property so no need to be checking your phone 24/7. Don’t worry, take a deep breath, that anxious need will fade away with the sunset. They also have a trail on the property which we trekked out on with the pups to watch that very sunset – lol!

sleep in and self care

The beds in the cabins are seriously so comfortable. I love that the window is next to the bed so that you can see the stars while going to sleep and feel like you are outdoors, but completely comfortable in a climate-controlled space laying on a memory foam mattress with a down comforter and feather pillows to blissfully drift you off to sleep. Lana and I love sleeping in and of course, we took advantage of doing just that during our Getaway. I also spent the day with no makeup on, hair in a bun, and treated myself to a face mask. Just a day in and mini spa session to recharge, along with a great book! I brought my Kindle along for the trip which lined up perfectly with the launch date of Midnight Sun! I was sure to pre-order and download it so that I could read it while at our Getaway cabin. I mean what better ambiance to read a Twilight saga book?!

it’s best with your pets

Getaway is super pet friendly, which is one of it’s biggest selling points to me personally. Anytime I can take my kiddos with me, I am there so knowing how pup friendly Getaway is makes me love their brand even more. Each area comes with an outdoor extended lead to clip your pet to, along with water and food bowls so you don’t have to worry about hauling bowls from home.

We cooked all of our meals during our stay, which I will share a few shots of. Getaway makes it so simple by providing the dishes, foil, utensils, and knives so that all you need to bring is your food and drinks!

We drove back to the city feeling well rested, well fed, and rejuvenated. There is just something about spending time together without all of the noise and distractions of everyday activities that makes you closer and is just overall quality time together you need to take every now and then. We loved our stay, and cannot wait to go back again.
