5 Day Style Challenge: How To Dress Like Jess

Who’s That Girl?

Prints, polka dots, bows and bright colors – yep, that’s what this week is all about! If you have never watched the sitcom New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel then you have been missing out my friend! Her witty cooky and awkwardly hilarious character will instantly draw you in, along with her over the top wardrobe and group of guy pal roommates – but today, and for this week, we are focusing on her wardrobe so if you are new, welcome to my style challenge series! If you are new to New Girl, I hope these looks inspire you to check the show out – it is on Netflix btw! And for all of those true Jess lovers out there, I hope you love these inspired looks and enjoy these somewhat modern recreations of Jessica Day’s closet.

Jess Can Rock A Lot Of Polka Dots

This may have been a dig at her when she brings it up on the show, but Jess does rock a lot of polka dots and in the best of ways! Her vintage, style with a pop of cute adds to the spirit of her character. Here I have paired a navy and white polka dot, peter pan collared drees with a pearl belt and coordinating headband. Since Jess is all about handmade and second-hand I wanted her looks to be super affordable because that’s “on brand” for me as well! So this dress, along with all of my accessories are from Amazon and are available Prime!

Lady In Red

Well this one was an easy choice for me, as my brand name is Redrhinestone I obviously love red and Jess wears some killer red dresses on the show. Though the sleeve length varies on her selections all are fit and flare or a-line because she has a pear figure just like I do and this dress silhouette is the most flattering. I chose this gorgeous red Lulus dress because of the silhouette and the frill accent. Though it wasn’t red, one of Jess’s most memorable looks from the show was from Season 1 when she went to the wedding with Nick to make Caroline jealous. She wore a one sleeve purple dress and this red one totally gave me Jess vibes so I went with it and well, this is how the look turned out.

Ruffles Plus Stripes Makes Everything Nice

Things I have noticed about Jessica’s fashion is that it consists of high waist bottoms, skinny belts are life, and to always add a print with your solids. Now, this can be either a printed top with a solid bottom, or solid top with printed bottom, she changes it up and does both which I love! So here I have on a striped square neck top with puff sleeves and a ruffled hem skort similar in color to the one Jess is wearing but my entire look is Amazon! I would have rather sized up to a large in the skort but at the time of purchase it was out of stock so that’s why mine is a wee bit short, but I love this look and think it is totally Jess worthy.

The Staple Solid T-shirt

Jess wears long sleeve, 3/4 length, and short sleeve crewnecks and v-necks pretty often. Now, these are not printed and are in a solid color which makes recreating this look very easy! I went with a solid long sleeve top and printed bottom, but instead of polka dot pleated shorts, I went with a current trending black and white tiered mini, and this look turned out so darn cute! I would literally wear this outfit anywhere! It’s both comfy and adorable and best of all Jess!

Be Bold, Sailor

So many times on the show Jess wears vintage-inspired clothing, including sailor-esk shorts. I really wanted to make this look my own but with full Jess flair so I found a printed tie-neck top – which she would wear to work – and a bright pair of high waisted sailor button shorts to complete the ensemble. Here I went opposite the inspo picture but that is because I wanted to show how even an opposite is totally Jess and how easy it is to make a look inspired by her style! The best news is this is yet another full-on Amazon look so the price is great and honestly the fit and fabric of these pieces are really nice! They can be worn in so many different ways!

I had so much fun with this week’s challenge! Jess is such a snazzy little dresser I was really inspired by her looks and got super into recreating my own versions of her style! I truly hope that came across in this challenge, and that you get as much inspo from this as I have from Jess! Thank you all for tuning into this 4-week style challenge series, it was such a blast! I will be creating a tab on the blog so that all four posts are easily accessible and ready to inspire! Much love to you all, and until next time stay safe and stylish!
