I have to admit, this was the challenge I was most excited for. I have been a fan of Audrey since a very young age, when I first saw My Fair Lady. She just radiates all things refined and glamorous – yes, even as a peasant selling flowers. So here I have picked a few everyday looks Audrey has worn in some of her most notable films to show how timeless and attainable her style is. – Note this is everyday style and not extravagant gowns as yes, she has some amazing notable looks for this as well, but we are sticking to practical fashion for this style challenge; enjoy!
Yes, when you think of this film, of course, the first look to come to mind is the black gown, pearls, oversized sunnies, and long satin gloves, but since we are doing every day, Audrey wears a look in this film which is still super stylish today. It’s a mock neck cropped sweater with high waisted crops and pigtails. I changed up the pants for some updated frayed hem denim and a very similar top for under $15. The sunnies are also super affordable and very similar to Audrey’s.
From the sailing scene in Sabrina with Humphrey and Audrey, she wears a pair of high waisted shorts and a wrapped-to-fit plaid top. I modified the wrap but kept with the plaid and high waist theme. This look is super adorable, still relevant – as high waisted shorts are super in, and this is just an all around look I would wear in the spring and summer. It’s easy to re-create and is total Audrey. When googling her I found numerous images of her off screen in similar, comfortable chic looks.
So this is the look Audrey wears for the majority of this film Roman Holiday and I actually really love how this look turned out. A breezy top, neck scarf, high waisted midi length skirt with belt to cinch and accentuate the waist, and wedges complete this ensemble from Roman Holiday. I personally do not own many midi length skirts so this plaid pink one was the closest in my closet. Once I put all of the pieces together I was pleasantly surprised with the finished result. This look is perfect for an all day style. Whether that be traveling, a 9-5, really anywhere this look works and is fabulous and can be mortified to work for many different seasons.
During the iconic cat and dog mask scene from Breakfast at Tiffany’s Audrey has on this adorable orange coat with fur hat. For the longest I have always wanted an orange coat just like hers but couldn’t find one, and didn’t want to invest in a heavy colorful coat I could only wear once a year here in Houston, so when this lightweight version appeared at Banana years ago I had to get it! So to recreate this look – in a Houston winter appropriate way – I styled my orange jacket with a sleeveless mock neck dress, printed neck scarf, and a vintage bison hat I purchased from a resale shop in Spain. Such a fun look, and one I think could also make an amazing costume – all you need is the cat mask!
There is a jazz scene in Funny Face where Audrey wears a fitted black top and crops with black flats and this look has become one of her most iconic. It’s so simple yet ultra sleek and sophisticated, along with her ponytail. This look is the easiest to recreate as it is just 2 solid black items and a pair of flats. I created this particular look with all Amazon items, so it is super affordable.
I hope you enjoyed this Audrey challenge as much as I did! She is a style icon and her person fashion, as well as, film fashion still is relevant today, and that truly says something! I love how easy and obtainable these every day Audrey looks are, and I hope you give them a shot! Now there is just one more to this series and I will start sharing next week, so stay tuned!
