Here we go! To kick off my style challenge series of July which will highlight 4 very iconic television, and movie fashionistas that I draw inspiration from for my personal style, I decided to start the month off with Charlotte York Goldenblatt of Sex and the City. I have always loved her style and was a fan of her character, which I feel was seriously underrated! So for a week I styled looks inspired by some of her most iconic outfits and will share with you how you can dress like this chic brunette bombshell as well!
Since the show was filmed so many years ago I decided to modernize a few of her looks by changing the cut and brightening the pinks, like with this jumpsuit. Charlotte has on a fitted sweetheart strapless dress, which I adapted the neckline but updated the style with a cropped jumpsuit and nixed the midi belt, but kept the black accessory theme she has with my sunnies and designer bag. So takeaways to make this look work are any pink dresses or jumpsuits with a sweetheart strapless design and tailored waist, and some oversized sunnies.
Charlotte was the cutest preggo and during her big blow-up with Big on the corner which led to her going into labor was a look I couldn’t pass up on. Black and white polka dots are so chic and iconic, plus can be styled lots of ways and look great – even what you are in that 3rd trimester. So here I am wearing a dress that I found on Amazon for an amazing price through Prime which looks adorable with its feminine flutter hem.
So this was my most changed look because let’s face it, this suit set is too matchy and a bit out of date so to bring it up a trend or two I added sleek white jeans, an asymmetrical silk top and similar blazer in light pink. I think this would be a Charlotte of 2020 look!
The best way to create a Charlotte look is a great fitting white dress. She wears so many white dresses in different flattering silhouettes throughout the series so you can choose pretty much any to achieve her effortlessly chic style. Here I have on a fitted embroidered paneled version with a fluted hem.
A structured business dress with a combo of her favorites; white, nude, flattering silhouette and polka dots all make up this last look and are inspired by pretty much her style in general but to get one specific look I went with this chiffon dot ruffle number she wore. Though not exact, I feel this look truly captures her vibe and is one of my favorites from the week.
So overall my week in Charlotte York’s style had me feeling super dressy, confident, and classically chic – basically the way I view her character. If you are looking to up your work wardrobe I recommend taking pointers from her style for sure. All of her looks are long enough, modest (aside from the strapless one) but you can easily add a blazer or cardi to make that look work as well, and she fits the business and party professional to a tee!
Stay tuned for next week’s style challenge character!
