Weekend Adventure with Getaway Dallas

Have you ever wanted to go on a short camping trip in a remote space, but want a cozy bed and private shower? Well I have been wanted a camping experience just like this and was SO excited when Getaway reached out to me! First of all, I didn’t know we had one in Texas and so close, at just 3 hours from Houston! For us, this is the perfect amount of miles for a road trip, and did I mention they are pet friendly?! Yep that’s right! This is the ideal trip to take with your fur babies. So let’s dive in to the stay!

Check In & Communication

Getaway Dallas is located on 99 acres so you feel as if you have the forest to yourself to explore. There is no need to stop at a front desk to check in or out as everything is provided to you via email and text message including your key code to unlock the front door of your cabin! If you ever need anything, all you have to do is text and they will send a team member out to your cabin.

The Layout

Each cabin has a unique name which is provided to you via text so you know where to go, and once there, you have a driveway to pull into which easily fits 2 cars. Outside you have 4 lounge chairs, a fire pit with grate, full size picnic table – and a storage bin of wood and fire starters for purchase if needed. There are stairs that lead up to the front door which has a screen door and solid door behind it. Once inside, the first thing I noticed was the aroma of wood. The entire cabin is constructed of natural wood and it seriously smells SO GOOD! The next thing I noticed was the beautiful windows and all of the natural light. Each side window is openable and has a screen for comfort and to keep things bug-free. On the wall with the beds, there was a breathtaking full size window which gives an amazing view of nature and was one of my favorite parts of the cabin. There was a mini kitchen with fridge, 2 burner electric stove, sink, and all of the tools and utensils needed to cook. A chargeable lantern, books, playing cards, cellphone lockbox, are also available to keep you in touch with the here-and-now and no wifi which means less distractions! There was a table for 4 which included 2 chairs and a bench, and a bathroom which featured a standing shower, towels, and of course a toilet.

The Luxe Side

Now as I have shown in the images and mentioned in the features the cabins are minimalist, providing only what you need, but they also have some luxurious touches which make then that much more enjoyable. The beds are full size, memory foam mattresses with feather down pillows and comforters. Such a lovely sleeping setup! Since there were 4 of us we had a bunk set up and a ledge by the window which actually ended up perfect for the pups! There are light dimmers and reading lights and on a clear night the sky lights up with stars and it is just the most beautiful sight. Another camping luxury the cabins feature is amble storage locations, and air conditioning and heat – obviously depending on the season, this can be quite a blessing!

Pup Friendly!

Everything about Getaway is for the pups. The outdoor ambiance, easy care interior of the cabin, provided water and food bowls, outdoor extended cable leaches so your pups can roam around safely, and all the nature for them to take in and enjoy right by your side.

What All We Did

So the first night we arrived around dinnertime and unpacked, started a fire, and had hotdogs and s’mores. We stayed up late telling ghost stories, playing card games and Jenga and I realized just how delish Truly is!

That was a clear night so I enjoyed staring out the window at the stars to fall asleep. It gives you the feeling of being outdoors, but without all the bugs, dirt, and ever changing temps!

The next morning we made eggs and sausage on the stove, and headed out to Lake Palestine which is just a short drive away. We came back to make a short hike around the property and start on lunch and dinner. We grilled sausages, meat, and chicken, which all was SO GOOD! But most of all, getting to spend time with my fiance, future sister-in-law and her fiance was what made this trip so special. Getting away from the hustle and bustle gave us each a chance to just talk, and enjoy the pleasure of each others company, along with fun bonding time for our pups too!

Recharge

While at Getaway I was mindful of being in the now. There is really something about this. I slept better, felt more focused, and left feeling more like myself. I strongly think trips like this are necessary to get back to nature, family and to yourself.
