Taking engagement photos for your save the date can me so much fun, but it can also be stressful if you don’t know where to start. Here are my tips to getting pictures you will absolutely love.
Start your search with Pinterest. This is my #1 tip. I browsed Pinterest to find pose and location inspiration as well as outfits. This helped me to narrow down locations and create the theme I was looking for. Why I say to start with Pinterest is because it is so easy to search and find relevant information and you can create a board to save the photos to, by doing this you will be able to narrow my scope and identify the theme you are looking for. It seriously helped me so much in determining what it was Jhonathan and I wanted to convey in our shoot.
Now that you have an idea of what you want, its time to start shopping for a photographer. Obviously check google and Instagram and view all of the portfolios you can. Check to see if the style/aesthetic the photographer specializes in aligns with the images you have saved on Pinterest and then set up a meeting. We went with Stephania Campos, as I know her through the blogger community and her work is exceptional. She has shot many weddings, has been featured in magazines and is such an amazing person! She totally understood what I envisioned, and brought my ideas to life.
So once you and the photographer decide if it is a good fit they can assist you in picking out a location for the shoot based on the inspiration you show them. That’s something I really love about photographers, they know the best places!
You want to be comfortable, but sometimes that can be hard to do if you aren’t used to being in front of a camera. For a blogger it is pretty easy, but for their partner it might not be so it’s great to find a photographer with experience who knows how to talk to the client and position them. I suggest some mirror posing before you go to your shoot as well just to get a feel for how you look and also if you are in love with certain images you pulled from Pinterest be sure to share that with the photographer and they can assist you in getting that shot in the pose you are envisioning.
You want to wear something that compliments your personal style as well as the environment you are shooting in. I would also suggest possibly keeping it on theme with your wedding. i.e. colors location etc. This builds cohesiveness and will make the save-the-dates and invitations seamless.
If you like any of the pieces featured, I have linked many of them here!
Now for the outdoor shoot we drove up to the Woodlands and shot in the park. We really wanted to capture our family- Lana and Archer and this was the perfect way to do it. We chose a pastel pink palette which was light and bright; perfect for the outdoors. I suggest long bottoms for outdoor engagement shoots and it adds softness and movement to the photos. I went with a chiffon skirt.
And that’s pretty much it! The only other tip I have to give is to have fun! This is such an amazing time in your life, and you should enjoy every step of the way!
